MUMEI

無銘

THE HAND BEHIND THE MASKS.

An unsigned blade is judged by the edge it keeps. MUMEI works the same way.

FILE_00 — THE UNSIGNED / 無銘

Chrome Ronin is attributed to MUMEI / 無銘 — an artist name, not a public identity. No portrait, hometown, school or résumé is offered. The absence is deliberate. In a culture trained to consume the maker before the work, MUMEI leaves only the mark.

His visual language was assembled from Tokyo after dark: the punk basements and secondhand lanes of Kōenji; the multilingual current along Okubo-dori; the cramped passageways bordering Shinjuku Golden Gai; rain on steel shutters, vending-machine light, construction mesh and the old faces painted to guard a threshold. These are real places. The biography is not the point.

His oni are not mascots. They are pressure made visible — rage held under discipline, fear worn as armor, beauty that survived damage. Chrome is the city reflecting itself. Ronin is the decision to move without permission.

Every piece is made for people who live between names: outsiders, night workers, immigrants, artists, fighters and anyone forced to build a code before they were given a home.

MUMEI does not ask to be believed. He asks whether the work feels true.
